It didn’t take long for Andrew Ostrander to realize that Margie Ziegler was the apple of his eye. Proposing to his sweetheart while apple picking one fall afternoon, Margie’s tears of joy confirmed to her future husband that she would indeed be his bride. Although according to Andrew, “I didn’t get a solid yes till our wedding day the following June.”
Wanting their nuptials to be outside and near the ocean, the City-by-the-Sea was an obvious choice for their event. “Newport is the absolute most picturesque location for a wedding and even if it’s cloudy, rains or the decorations aren’t exactly what you had planned – all your guests will remember the beauty of Newport,” says Margie.
The color scheme highlighted the beautiful surroundings and views of Narragansett Bay with greens, neutrals and splashes of burnt orange for a pop of color. Bridesmaids wore organic green silk taffeta dresses and carried fragrant bouquets of hydrangea, white lilies and mini roses. A gift from the bride, each wore a sterling silver sea star necklace. Groomsmen donned suits with light green ties and flip flops, the latter a fun nod to their seaside location.
Nautical details were also showcased during the reception with sand dollars on place cards, wreaths of beach heather and shells wrapped around hurricane lantern centerpieces, and homemade chocolate starfish favors. Guests dined on citrus and dill rubbed grilled salmon filet, grilled petite filet of beef and basil roast chicken, and for dessert, were treated to a toasted almond cake with vanilla butter cream frosting.
As the sun set, casting a gorgeous array of colors to the sky, friends and family gathered together one more time to celebrate the newlyweds. “When the last song started, everyone joined us on the dance floor, us in the center, dancing like crazy people,” says Margie, “just so happy to be starting our lives together.”
After the wedding, the couple headed to Hawaii and explored the beauty of paradise before returning to their home in Connecticut.
