“We used to do family cruises,” says Kirsten. “Castle Hill Lighthouse was always the first thing we saw as we left and as we returned. It is a beacon of home and family.”

Meeting through friends at a college football game in Alabama, Kirsten Ferguson, a Jamestown native, and Chris Lingerfelt, a student at Auburn University, hit it off and continued their relationship long distance until the miles could no longer keep them apart. One night, Kirsten’s dog, Olive, said goodnight with a special sparkly surprise tied to her collar and Chris was close behind with a life changing question. The couple soon began to plan their Newport nuptials at Castle Hill with a nod to the bride’s nautical past.—TS
Flowers
The bride’s flower choices carried the couple’s natural coastal vibe throughout the occasion with a mix of local flowers, including blue and white hydrangeas, mini green hydrangeas, fresh lavender, cream roses, white orchids, white ranunculus, freesia, local dahlias, green hypericum berries and succulents.
Decorations
“Instead of table numbers, we named each table after one of our favorite places in Jamestown and on Aquidneck Island, for example Beavertail, Clingstone and 40 Steps,” says Kirsten. “When guests arrived at their table, there was a photo of the place and a write-up on its history.” The nautical theme was also present in décor accents including rope, driftwood and beach rocks.
Special Touch
Instead of a guest book, the couple had a bowl of blank wooden puzzle pieces. Each guest was asked to sign a piece. Later, Kirsten and Chris put it together and had it framed.
Where Are They Now
After soaking in the tropical rays in St. Barths, the couple settled in Charlotte, NC where the bride works as a public relations and digital media specialist and the groom as a financial analyst.
